Youth for Western Civilization has beacheads in Northeast

Since I first wrote about the new student group Youth for Western Civilization, I’ve gotten a number of requests for more information. Here is what I know.
The organization either has, or is organizing, chapters at eight colleges including some in the Northeast. The campuses are the University of Connecticut, Bentley University, Vanderbilt, American University, Elon University, University of North Carolina, Providence College, and the University of Rhode Island.
The group has an extreme view of the election of Barak Obama. According to the Higher Education Insider, one of the group’s leaders says that “The left has taken over the country. This is a very urgent thing. This is not something where we can sit in a room in coats and ties like College Republicans and discuss how bad it’s going to suck.”
Youth for Western Civilization is supported by the Leadership Institute, a right-wing training ground for young activists. According to the Institue, the 12 million dollar per year operation has trained 72,000 young conservatives, most at its five story headquarters complete with a dormitory for its “students”. Some of its trainees go into mainstream conservative organizations while others are leaders in radical groups like Young Americans for Freedom.
The exclusionary focus of Youth for Western Cvilization has reportedly alienated some college Republicans, who see a bigger tent as the only path to electoral victory. These Republicans don’t see confrontations with Latinos and Asian-americans as a way to regain majority political status.
Here is what Youth for Western Civ has to say for itself.
One of the group’s founders has pleaded guilty to hate crime.
