Home > LI Culture > Local Music: Corrientes
In another life, I blogged about local music for The Journal News (covering Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam counties), and from time to time, I’d like to highlight some Long Island-area bands that have been influenced by immigrant culture.
One group that I came across recently was Corrientes, a mellow quartet that’s based out in East Rockaway.
Judging by their album Breathe and a few other tracks that I’ve heard, the band’s sounds draws everything from reggae chord progressions to Cuban drumming and Spanish flamenco. The lead singer and songwriter, Ivette Torres-Albano, is a Cuban-American, and she bounces back and forth between lyrics in English and Spanish.
Here are some tracks from Corrientes and a link to the band’s Facebook page.
