Home > LI Culture > VIDEO: Latino Artists Take to Brentwood Streets To Showcase Their Art Work
Downtown Brentwood transformed into an open-air art gallery on Sunday, September 26, when a group of Latino artists set up shop on Suffolk Avenue for the first Brentwood Cultural Festival. The event was part of an initiative by Suffolk Legislator Brian X. Foley (D-Blue Point) and New York State Assemblyman Phil Ramos (D-Central Islip) to revitalize downtown Brentwood as a bohemian and artistic destination.
The festival attracted hundreds of residents looking for fun and to see diverse Latino art exhibitions. In addition to the artworks on display, area residents were treated to live bachata, cumbia, and salsa music, as well as spray painting and sculpting demonstrations. Amid the art activities, nearby restaurants served popular Latin dishes like carne asada and pastelitos.
But most importantly for organizers, there was plenty of appreciation from artists who had the opportunity to feature their work for the community.
Here is a slideshow of the artworks and some short clips about the event with some artists and an organizer:
