Last week, Long Island Wins circulated a petition calling for New York’s Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand to support the DREAM Act, legislation that would create a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who attend two years of higher education or serve in the military. To be eligible, the students will need to have arrived in the US before the age of 16, and have had US residency for five years or more at the time of the bill’s enactment.
This week, Congress will vote on the DREAM Act as a part of the defense reauthorization bill. With that in mind, Long Island Wins is mobilizing a call-in campaign to Schumer and Gillibrand’s offices today.
