“L.I. Walkers Slog Through Rainy N.J. En Route to Immigration Reform March”
UPDATE- 3/10/10
I’m going to embed our Twitter feed into this post, so that I can update readers on the progress of Friday’s immigration reform walk from Hempstead to Staten Island (scroll down past the Twitter Updates for more information about the walk). During the walk, I’ll be sending updates to Twitter, which will display below. You can also find them on Twitter under the hashtag #li2dc.

I’ll also be posting photos and videos of the walk to Staten Island via Flickr. You’ll find them here:
About the Walk
Looking to drum up support for immigration reform, members of The Workplace Project will embark on a nine-day trek this Friday, March 12, from Hempstead, where the organization is based, to Washington, D.C. If all goes according to plan, the group will arrive in D.C. in time for the March 21 rally for immigration reform, which will likely draw advocates from across the country.
As one sole-minded advocate pointed out to me, the group will need to walk roughly 30 miles a day to accomplish their goal, so they’re going to need all the support they can get along the way. And possibly some blister cream.
Barring any new developments in the Jeffrey Conroy trial, I intend to accompany the group during the first day of their journey, which will take them as far as Staten Island. I sometimes get tired after driving for 30 miles.
I’ve contacted Saul Linares of The Workplace Project and requested a copy of the route, but they’re still working out the details. As soon as they have the route, I’ll post it here, so you can meet up with the crew as they venture towards our nation’s capital.
As Patrick Young, Esq., mentions in his blog post today, there will be a rally for the walkers before they depart on Friday at 10am.
Over the course of the next few weeks, I’ll keep updating this post with news about the group’s progress.
