A clear majority of Senators voted in support of the Corker-Hoeven border security amendment, paving the way for the Senate's passage of the bill later this week.
The "border surge" amendment, which would double the number of border patrol agents and add 700 miles of border fencing, passed a Senate cloture vote yesterday evening, 67-27. Fifteen Republicans voted in favor, and all Democrats supported the measure.
The Senate is now expected to vote on the full bill by the end of the week, ahead of its self-imposed July 4 deadline.
